One of the most suggestive, fascinating and better preserved european capitals of the Gothic Art, Siena is first of all universally remembered as the City of Palio, a spectacular medieval tournement that develops in the unbelievable scenography of Piazza del Campo, one of the most beautiful squares of the world.
With its classical “red-terra di siena” color and the original “shell” form, Piazza del Campo is surrounded by monumental buildings of incomparable beauty, among which detach the Public Building with the Tower of “Mangia” and the Civic Museum.
In the street Banchi di Sotto camps Palazzo Piccolomini, and continuing the street opens to the grandiose Gothic Cathedral with esoteric runs and the Baptistery set in the Apse.
We advises to visit the Museum of the Opera Metropolitana, the Pinacoteca Nazionale, Palazzo Salimbeni and the Church of San Domenico.
To around 30 kms, taking the road for Grosseto, near Chiusdino rise the magnificentis ruins of the cistercensic Abbey of St. Galgano, with his famous and mysterious Round Chapel where an original Sword is found hammered in the Rock, wispering the deeds of King Arthur.
